Alder Tree Branch with Catkins and Cones - Candle Holder Sculpture featuring Brass & Bronze.

£400.00

Sculptural Candle Holder (For short, fat candle).

Alder Trees tend to be found on the edge of water and on many walks I have collected their irresistible dangling Catkins and Cones.

Carrying both these male (Catkins) and female parts (Cones) , the Alder Tree for me is synonymous with spring.

Its cones are buoyant and can float down stream to spread the seeds!

For my Catkins and Cones I first designed and made 2 bespoke, hand forged tools called "Spring Swages" to help my forge the shape and pattern of them repeatedly under my power hammer.

For this example the pollen covered yellow Catkins are forged from solid Brass and Bronze.

2 Yellow Brass

1 Warmer, Copper Coloured Bronze.

21cm Tall

19cm Wide

16cm Deep

A forged, bark textured branch complete with wood knots curves up and in front of the candle base.

Alder leaves have a distinct shape, not coming to a point like many leaves, but to an indentation.

A bundle of soon to be ripe cones hang below the canopy with the unmistakable dangling catkins.

Featuring a heavy, organic textured, forged base for weight and candle dish.

The first of its kind - Indoor use.

Items left in a damp environment will develop a non damaging surface rust.

To clean and protect your metal work clean with any product containing wax or oil, such as furniture polish or WD40.
